Aurora forecast for Lapland – live tonight
The real-time Kp index, NOAA’s 3-day forecast and the solar wind, translated into one simple question: can you see the northern lights in Lapland tonight?

Pointing north – the door is mostly closed for now.
What the numbers mean for tonight
Kp index (0–9) measures how disturbed Earth’s magnetic field is. In northern Lapland auroras can appear even at Kp 1–2; around Rovaniemi Kp 2–3 is usually enough on a clear night, and Kp 4+ brings the lights overhead across all of Lapland.
Solar wind speed shows how fast particles from the sun are arriving. Above about 500 km/s, activity tends to pick up.
Bz is the direction of the magnetic field carried by the solar wind. When it turns south (negative), energy flows into Earth’s field much more easily – that is often when the sky suddenly lights up.
Then check the clouds: a strong forecast is useless under a thick cloud deck. The ranking on the right combines all of it for each spot. See the cloud cover maps or the live aurora map for the details.
